Lime Pointing

Lime mortar correctly specified, applied and cured will last for many decades. We can replace inappropriate cement based mortars with a suitable lime mortar, appropriate for the location of your building. We use a range of binders and aggregates for optimal performance.

Carving, Dressing & Hand Letter cutting

Carving is the interface between building and sculpture. Art meets practicality. We can both repair sculptures, fountains, monuments, benches and fulfill brand new commissions. Dressing is where we produce mouldings such as string course, finials and all manner of tooled surface finishes.

Lime plastering

Lime plastering is a traditional finish often found in period properties. We carry out lime plaster repair and renewal works, normally complimented with a pigmented lime wash finish.

Pigmented repairs

Not all defective stone has to be replaced. It may be required to adopt a minimal intervention approach. We have the skills to reproduce decorative mouldings and surface finishes using pigmented mortar repairs, incorporating stainless steel armatures where needed.

Building surveys

Parts of our built heritage are often difficult to access and maintain. Chimneys, bell cotes and steeples are particularly exposed to weathering. We hold appropriate MEWP licencing and can survey the building fabric to produce condition reports and undertake remedial repairs. We are pleased to work alongside Architects, Chartered Surveyors and Structural Engineers.

Lime harling

Lime harling is a proven protective surface finish which is cast onto a prepared wall surface — normally in a traditional building this will be over rubble masonry, This is further enhanced by the addition of both unadulterated (plain) limewash coats as base layers and pigmented mid to top coats, resulting in a beautiful surface which allows the building materials to breathe, unlike modern cement based alternatives.

Indents

Smaller pieces of missing or damaged parts of stone can be carefully templated, reproduced then pieced in compatible stone. This is used when the rest of the stone is structurally sound but some of the original detailing has been damaged or eroded.

Burnt sand mastic

Burnt sand mastic is an oil and kiln dried sand based product, which dates back several hundred years. Used primarily to seal between timber framed windows, this is the perfect way to complete the interface between the masonry and timber.
